The main line climbs from Kandy through the central highlands to Nanu Oya (for Nuwara Eliya), then on to Haputale, Ella and Badulla. The most scenic stretch is usually considered to be between Nanu Oya and Ella, with views over tea estates, waterfalls and valleys.
