Sri Lanka’s beaches follow the monsoons. From roughly December to April the south and west coasts — Bentota, Galle, Unawatuna, Mirissa, Tangalle — have calm seas and sunshine. From about May to September, the east coast around Trincomalee, Pasikuda and Arugam Bay is at its best. Beach tours match the coast to your travel month, and combine beach days with light excursions such as whale watching, snorkelling or a Galle Fort afternoon.
