Negombo – Sigiriya – Kandy – Nuwara Eliya – Ella – Udawalawe – Mirissa – Galle

This itinerary is for travellers who want to see the essentials without getting up early every day. Longer stays in fewer places mean more time at the pool, more flexibility for weather and energy levels, and space to add experiences you discover along the way.

Udawalawe replaces Yala for a shorter, very reliable elephant safari, and three nights near Mirissa give you a proper beach holiday before a final evening in Galle Fort. It is one of our most popular routes for couples and families with a little more time.

Trip highlights

  • Three relaxed nights near Sigiriya
  • Polonnaruwa by bicycle
  • Kandy and Peradeniya gardens
  • Tea country and the Ella train
  • Elephant safari at Udawalawe
  • Three nights on the south coast
  • Galle Fort

Frequently asked questions

Why Udawalawe instead of Yala?

Udawalawe gives reliable elephant sightings with shorter drives, which fits a relaxed pace. We can switch to Yala if leopards are a priority.

Is this tour good for older travellers?

Yes. Drives are moderate, stays are longer, and Sigiriya’s climb is optional.

Can we travel in summer?

Yes — from May to September we keep the inland route and move the beach stay to the east coast.
