A curved, sheltered bay just east of Galle, with calm swimming in season, a peace pagoda on the headland and snorkelling off Jungle Beach.
Usually yes in the December–April season — the bay is relatively sheltered. Conditions change with the monsoon, so always check locally.
Unawatuna is a small crescent bay a few kilometres from Galle, backed by restaurants and guesthouses. The wooded Rumassala headland protects it; local tradition links Rumassala to the Ramayana story of Hanuman and the medicinal mountain.
