The full trail, coast to hills
Twelve days on the fuller Ramayana trail: Munneswaram, Koneswaram in Trincomalee, the hill-country sites, Ussangoda and Rumassala on the south coast.
This longer journey adds the east coast and the south to the classic Ramayana route. It includes Koneswaram Temple on its clifftop above Trincomalee, the Kanniya hot springs, and on the south coast Ussangoda and Rumassala, which local traditions connect with Hanuman.
As on all our Ramayana tours, sites are presented as places of tradition and devotion rather than archaeological proof. The route is designed for roughly May to September, when the east coast is dry, and includes time to rest between temple days.
Negombo – Chilaw – Sigiriya – Trincomalee – Kandy – Nuwara Eliya – Ella – Unawatuna – Colombo
Airport welcome and transfer to Negombo.
Visit Munneswaram and Manavari near Chilaw, then continue inland to the Sigiriya area.
Optional early climb of Sigiriya, then drive to Trincomalee on the east coast.
Visit Koneswaram Temple on Swami Rock, associated in local tradition with Ravana, and the Kanniya hot springs, linked by legend to the same story. Afternoon on the beach at Uppuveli or Nilaveli.
Cross the island to Kandy; evening at the Temple of the Tooth.
Kandy’s temples and kovils, and the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya.
The Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple at Ramboda and the Seetha Amman Temple near Nuwara Eliya.
Hakgala and Divurumpola, then on to Ella.
The Ravana sites near Ella; the rest of the day at leisure.
Descend to the south coast, stopping at Ussangoda, a red-earth plateau linked in local legend to Hanuman. Continue to Unawatuna.
Visit the Rumassala headland, traditionally said to be part of the herb-bearing mountain carried by Hanuman, then drive to Colombo, visiting Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara on the way.

You travel in a private air-conditioned vehicle sized for your group and luggage, with the same driver or chauffeur guide throughout. Licensed site guides can be added at major heritage sites.
Best roughly May to September for Trincomalee. From December to April we suggest the 8-day trail plus the south coast instead.
