When can you climb Adam’s Peak?

The pilgrimage season usually runs from the Unduvap full moon in December to the Vesak full moon in May, when the path is lit and tea stalls are open. Most people start around 2 am to reach the summit for sunrise.

Sri Pada, known in English as Adam’s Peak, rises to about 2,240 metres. A depression near the summit is revered as a sacred footprint — of the Buddha by Buddhists, of Shiva by many Hindus, and of Adam by some Christians and Muslims. Pilgrims have climbed it for centuries.

The usual route from Dalhousie (Nallathanni) involves several thousand steps and takes most walkers three to four hours up.
