This is a slower, cooler trip focused on the central highlands. Two nights in each of Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Ella give time for tea factory visits, estate walks, Horton Plains and the hikes around Ella, with the scenic train as the centrepiece.

It pairs well with a beach extension on the south coast, or a Cultural Triangle add-on for a fuller first visit. Mornings are usually clearest in the hills, so each day starts early and ends with plenty of free time.

Trip highlights

  • Temple of the Tooth and Kandy Lake
  • Tea estate walks and tastings
  • Horton Plains and World’s End
  • The Nanu Oya – Ella train
